Even if you are in your 40s you probably remember sitting down to watch the world-famous Sesame Street program. It began as a way to allow the ever-increasing number of “latch-key kids” to have a sort of electronic babysitter until their parents arrived home from their work day. It was also a program meant to educate kids in the youngest age groups too. This is the reason that a Sesame Street party works for babies, toddlers, and kids of all ages.
What is a Sesame Street party? Usually it will be a birthday party that features the most famous faces from the program on the plates, décor, and even the gift wrap too. Additionally, most of the games, favors, and activities are going to focus on such characters as Big Bird, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Bert and Ernie, and many more.
One of the great things about a Sesame Street party is that it can use a lot of low-cost and “basic” decorations in the primary colors. For instance, a bold red table cloth and brilliant blue and yellow plates and cups can be the foundation for the party, and things like napkins, cake plates, and many types of decorations can all have the Sesame Street characters and themes.
Naturally, any Sesame Street party begins with the invitations. There will always be plenty of pre-packaged invitations available with the recognizable characters imprinted upon them, but it is just as easy for parents to go ahead and make their own original invites. For example, you might use the first letter of the child’s name on the cover of the card and inside you could follow the traditional “this birthday is brought to you by the letter…” that appears on every episode of the famous program. You might also ask your child to help make the invites and use a lot of Sesame Street stickers and your child’s own handwriting to create charming invitations too.
Another major feature of any child’s party that uses the Sesame Street theme is goodie bags. Remembering that the overall theme of the program is education makes it easy to decide what to include. Crayons in primary colors, Sesame Street flash cards or coloring books, stickers, and pins with the most popular characters are ideal gifts to give to all of the attendees. If you didn’t use the letter sponsorship idea on the invitations, you might want to use it for the goodie bags. For example, “this party was brought to you by the letter…” could be printed on the tags for each bag. You might also include the number that is the child’s age in this greeting as well!
