The centerpiece of most birthday parties tends to be the birthday boy or girl, the next major attraction, however, tends to be the birthday cake. There is rarely any type of celebration that does not include some sort of frosted and decorated delight, and birthday cake designs have taken on a new level of significance.
Just consider how many major television and cable programs are currently being watched by millions of people, and which focus on exotic, unusual and specialty birthday cake designs. These might be massive structures, sculpted marvels that hardly look like cakes at all, or dreamy delights full of chocolate crème, fruits, or other delicious treats. A common theme among all of them is the fact that they have a very focused and intentional design that is apart from the flavoring and general looks of the cake. This means that anyone who is hosting a birthday party will want to make a point of finding the right array of birthday cake designs from which to make their choice.
For example, there are cakes that are baked in specialty pans and which come out in the shape of everything from animals to shoes. There are also cakes that are all about the specialty decorations, fondant wrappings and gourmet fillings. Most of them can be color coordinated with the décor of the party, or per the wishes of the celebrant. For instance, birthday cake designs can be found for cartoon characters and feature a three dimensional shape, or they can simply have that same character “painted” on the cake with a specialized device.
So, how do you go about selecting the right design? It actually all begins with the number of guests to be served by the cake. For instance, you may have found a baker who is able to shape a cake into something like a soccer ball or hot air balloon, but something like this may only server six to eight guests. Because of this you may need to discuss the size of the party with the baker in order to know which designs work best for that need.
The next thing to consider is, obviously, the flavors to be incorporated into the cake. If you are considering something heavily structured you may find that a light cake and airy filling cannot serve your choice. The baker is going to be the best guide as to which types of cakes and fillings are going to work best with your design.
