Becoming a teenager is a big deal, and because of that it is usually important to a birthday boy or girl to have a memorable celebration. The problem is that there seems to be a lack of unique 13th birthday party ideas. The standard birthday party experience with streamers, balloons and favorite cartoon characters may be outdated for a teenager, but they aren’t ready for a “grown up” party either…so, what is a parent to do?
There are actually a handful of excellent 13th birthday party ideas and themes that can meet the wishes of almost any new teen. For example, have you thought about something as simple as a glow in the dark party? This would use glow-sticks as favors and a huge array of items that respond to the use of phosphorescent or “black lights”. This is such a popular trend in birthday parties that most good party supply stores actually sell tablecloths, hats, favors, cake toppers or candles, and a huge array of decorations which glow in the dark!
Looking for 13th birthday party ideas that are a bit less extreme? Have you considered asking the birthday boy or girl if they have any interest in a Hollywood theme party? For example, did they want to have a “red carpet” entrance and do a lot of movie themed activities? This would be a great way to include boys and girls on the invitation list without any worries about boredom. There are many types of party supplies that could easily meet the demands of such a theme. For instance, popcorn containers full of treats and snacks, miniature “Oscars” or trophies for those who come dressed as their favorite stars, and even a top hat or tiara for the birthday boy or girl.
Of course, among the classic 13th birthday party ideas is an “active” party in which there are all kinds of games or crafts. For instance, why not have the guests make their own tie-dye t-shirts, and then use this same theme for the décor? You could create a “tie-dye” ice cream bar with rainbow sprinkles and an array of colored treats. You could decorate with all kinds of colorful themes and play music from the 1960s and 70s too!
Generally, it is best to really focus on the interests of the 13 year-old and ask them to contribute some ideas to the theme of their party as this is the surest way to success!
